Ford's new Europe chief will speak at Europe congress


Among the first challenges facing Armstrong as Ford of Europe chief will be the launch of the next-generation Fiesta, the region’s top-selling subcompact car.

Ford of Europe’s new president, Steven Armstrong, will be among the speakers at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Barcelona, Spain, next month.

Armstrong, 52, will become head of Ford’s European operations on June 1, succeeding Jim Farley, who has been recalled by new Ford CEO Jim Hackett to the automaker’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, to oversee global markets including Europe.

Armstrong, moves to his new role from his job as Ford of Europe’s chief operating officer. During his 25-year career with Ford, the British national has served in a variety of senior management and purchasing positions for Jaguar, Volvo Cars and Ford of Europe. He oversaw Ford’s sale of Volvo to Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010

Armstrong’s first crucial challenge will be the launch of the latest generation Fiesta, Ford’s best-selling model in Europe and also the region’s top-selling subcompact car. The Fiesta will go on sale in the summer.

The 2017 Automotive News Europe Congress takes place June 21 at the Hotel Fairmont King Juan Carlos I, followed by a gala dinner at the Camp Nou stadium of Barcelona soccer club.

The previous evening, June 20, a ceremony will be held to honor ANE’s Rising Stars at Casa Llotja de Mar in Barcelona.
